Welcome!

My First Post!

Thank you for visiting my blog!  This is something I have wanted to do for a while and have finally found the courage (and time) to get it done!  I want to start by saying I am a regular mom with three boys, Rhett and Wyatt are 10 (twins!) and Bryce is 8 and they have lots of energy! I have the best husband who loves me for who I am.  We are a perfect match. 💞  I am a stay at home mom and spend most of my day cleaning, cooking, and of course working out.  I began a passion for health and nutrition after the twins were born.  It has evolved over the last 10 years after reading numerous nutrition books and trying lots of things on my family.

I decided to focus my first post on how to make nut milk.  I have been asked so many times how to do it.  I think people are intimated by the process but they shouldn't be because it is SO easy!  It takes about 10 minutes.  Really!  And it tastes so much better than store bought.  All you need as a good blender (I have a ninja), a nut bag, what ever nuts you would like to use, and if you prefer, dates and vanilla.  I have seen the nut bag at Whole foods but you can also get it at Amazon.  So here we go....

First, get about 2-3 cups of raw nuts and put them in a bowl.  I like to mix almonds with pecans to make my milk.  But cashews are also a good nut to use for this.  Fill the bowl with water to cover the nuts.  Let them soak for about 4 hours.  I have purchased nuts at different places.  I use Amazon mostly because I don't have to leave the house and its priced well. Here is the link for Raw Almonds If you notice, its Costco brand.

After the nuts are soaked, drain the water and rinse the nuts.  Then pour them into a blender.  Fill the blender with water.  I fill it almost all the way without it spilling out the sides when I turn it on. (done that more than once!)   Add about 5-6 large dates.  Be sure to take the seed out!!  Turn the blender on high and let the nuts blend for a couple of minutes.

Now the next step is what takes most of the time, squeezing the milk through the nut bag.  I use a bowl and pour about a 1/4 of the milk into the bag and just squeeze until I can not get anymore liquid out of the bag.  Then just repeat until you have emptied your blender.  You will have leftover pulp when you are done.  My mom feeds it to the birds.  I should totally do that too mom.

So we go to Mexico ALOT!  We are lucky enough to have endless amounts of mexican vanilla.  If you don't know, Mexico has the best vanilla and its the real stuff!  This is when I pour a couple of tablespoons of vanilla in the milk.  SO good!  Now, we use our milk mostly for coffee so I like to make it thicker, like a creamer.  But if I am making a milk, I just dilute it with water.  I usually take some of it and make a milk for the kids.  They absolutely love homemade almond milk!

One quick tip, when we travel sometimes its really hard to find almond milk.  My husband and I were in Antigua last summer for our 16 anniversary and we came upon powdered coconut milk!  It is perfect to keep in your purse for emergency coffee!  I came home and found it on Amazon, Powdered coconut  We have also been known for bringing a jar of homemade milk to restaurants. No shame in that!

Good luck to you!  You will be amazed at the difference in taste.  I won't get on my tangent on why cows milk is not good for the human body.  I will save that for another day. 😏
